PRESIDENT’S NOTES Ramon G. Opulencia A Happy and Prosperous 2012! As we usher in the New Year, let us take this as an opportunity to welcome our newly elected Board and Committee Chairpersons who will be working hard to make this a banner year for FINEX. Together with everyone’s support, this promises to be an exciting year for FINEX.

In its planning session last December, the FINEX board chose the theme for 2012, “FINEX: Moving
the Philippines Towards Global Competitiveness”. As the leading financial organization in the country,
I believe we can do our share in raising the bar in order to put the country closer to global standards. I believe
that FINEX, counting in its roster qualified CFOs and other financial executives, is uniquely qualified to
harness these resources and make a significant contribution to improve our country’s competitiveness.
Continuing from the leadership of past Presidents Greg Navarro and Ronnie Alcantara, and
using the Finex 2018 Vision as the roadmap, we will continue to build on prior years’ results and shall
focus on three major areas: 1) advocacies for national development; 2) professional development; and
3) international initiatives. These three initiatives, taken singly and collectively, aim to actualize our theme
supporting competitiveness and innovation in global finance
These are just some of the initiatives we are envisioning for the coming year. I am confident that
with your support and shared vision, we will be able to achieve these objectives and contribute towards
our country’s development. Key to achieving a dynamic, working organization is a strong and active
membership roster sharing the same beliefs and aspirations.
I know that all of us can contribute to the bigger whole through the ideas and plans we will implement
in our own circles of influence. The innovations that we will pursue will play a meaningful role in the
over-all directions of our own FINEX and in our goal to hopefully see our economy undeniably move
forward.
For this reason, I thought it would be appropriate to invite our distinguished Keynote Speaker,
Mr. Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Chairman & CEO of Ayala Corp., whom I know deeply shares this
vision for our country. He is – himself – a strong advocate for raising our country’s standards and level of
competitiveness. I am sure we can all draw a lot of good insights from his message today given his breadth
of experience in the corporate sector as well as his engagement in various global advisory councils.
Thank you and have a good day.
